Howdy friend!

Adios

Have you ever been walking to a deer blind in the quiet and still morning darkness when all of a sudden you hear a super loud and intimidating deer snort not 10 yards away from you?

Dang, we have and it was almost enough to make us turn around and head back to the house so we could change our underpants.

Well that’s obviously not necessarily a “call” you’d want to use for deer but in this episode of the Feed Bandit Podcast we discuss how most hunters actually do underuse deer calls when hunting.

We outline some key vocalizations (grunts, clicks, roars, snorts, bleats, and fawn calls), what they mean, and when to use them.

We then talk about how to read a deer’s tail to gauge its mood and likelihood of bolting so you know what the situation is and how to handle it.

Finally, we contrast mature bucks with younger deer—highlighting their laziness, tight home ranges, focused rut behavior, and stealthy movement—and how to adjust hunting strategies accordingly.

This Deer Foundations series is intended to be useful for deer hunters of all ages and experience but it will be especially helpful to those that are just starting out.

It will give those new hunters all the basic fundamentals needed to be successful out in the field so we hope you’ll take a listen and let a less experienced hunter know about it.
