The personalities of the whitetail & a deer’s favorite foods

Texas First Outdoors

Howdy friend!

Adios

Deer truly are much more like us humans than we might think.

It’s always fascinating to see a bachelor herd come in and watch the dynamics between all the bucks.

And just maybe that day based on the way one acts you’d might choose to harvest him over others.

Well in this episode of the Feed Bandit Podcast we discuss how to recognize aggressive vs. submissive bucks by body language and behavior, and how that affects calling and decoy tactics.

Taking a submissive trophy is still a trophy!

We then detail the “big five” deer foods (acorns, alfalfa, apples, corn, soybeans), plus secondary browse that influences travel routes.

Also scouting acorn crops by deer sign and tracking tracking how that deer sign changes from “hot tree to hot treee” could give you an edge over that stubborn trophy buck.

Finally, we discuss other important fruits and nuts and how knowing where they are on your property—beech, berries, honey locust, various oaks, persimmons, sumac, and wild grapes—helps you to better pattern deer, especially mature bucks.

This Deer Foundations series is intended to be useful for deer hunters of all ages and experience but it will be especially helpful to those that are just starting out.

It will give those new hunters all the basic fundamentals needed to be successful out in the field so we hope you’ll take a listen and let a less experienced hunter know about it.
