Howdy friend!

My territory
When walking your land be sure to keep your eyes on the ground cause you might just stumble upon the very key that will snag you that trophy.
Hunting scrapes is another tactic in our utility belt that we can use for patterning mature bucks.
In this episode of the Feed Bandit Podcast we learned about early rubs/scrapes (late Aug/early Sep) that are made by big bucks and how prime “scrape week” (1.5 weeks pre-peak rut) offers daytime visits along familiar routes in secure cover like logging roads or ridges.
We covered several other types of scrapes and the tactics that should be used when you find them such as:
Open: Edge fields; hunt nearby staging cover.
Hidden: Thick woods; intercept en route to bedding with buck urine/grunts.
Chase: Disturbed dirt/branches; aggressive estrus scent/rattling.
Rut: Near doe beds; bleats/estrus.
Late: Post-rut; tending grunts/snort-wheezes.
Understanding what the scrape means in that particular time of year could be your ticket to hunting glory.
And don’t forget to integrate any of the prior skills we’ve talked about such as hunting near rubs, bedding and making calls to give you beaucoup skills for success.
This Deer Foundations series is intended to be useful for deer hunters of all ages and experience but it will be especially helpful to those that are just starting out.
It will give those new hunters all the basic fundamentals needed to be successful out in the field so we hope you’ll take a listen and let a less experienced hunter know about it.
