Browsing the deer buffet & where bucks like to sleep
Texas First Outdoors
Howdy friend!
Do you find yourself spending a small fortune on corn and protein, filling those feeders in the hope they’ll attract your next trophy?
What if you could create sort of a “Willy Wonka Browse Factory” on your land that could save you some feed $$$ creating a place where the deer would choose never to leave?
Well to do that you’ll need to be armed with the knowledge of what deer love to eat.
Maybe you can start molding your land to provide this bounty for your prey.
In this episode of the Feed Bandit Podcast we cover essential browse—leaves, twigs, and buds from plants like ash, maple, honeysuckle, and willow—which are critical for digestion and daily intake.
Scouting for these, plus evergreens and wild forbs, allow you to assess habitat quality and create the foundation for a superior browse factory.
We also detail another strategy that you can use to get your trophy and that is understanding buck bedding behavior
They often bed alone in remote, rugged, or thick cover—high on ridges, in swamps, CRP grass, or near ag fields—using wind and sight lines for security.
Recognizing bed size, location, and sign helps pattern mature bucks giving you a higher percentage shot at seeing the big ole boy you’re looking for.
This Deer Foundations series is intended to be useful for deer hunters of all ages and experience but it will be especially helpful to those that are just starting out.
It will give those new hunters all the basic fundamentals needed to be successful out in the field so we hope you’ll take a listen and let a less experienced hunter know about it.
